10 Years of Garmin and PPD Together
On 15 August 2019 our distribution relationship with Garmin, regrettably, came to an end. The decade long collaboration was an amazing journey.
When it all began, Hong Kong was the smallest market for Garmin watches in Asia. With PPD on board, the city soared to the second-largest [ just behind Japan ] in 2 years. ( SCMP interview )
PPD (Pure Performance Distribution Limited) was founded by Bruce Pye, a triathlon athlete. When Bruce had trouble finding the right store for quality training gears, he saw a niche market unfulfilled. So in 2008, he opened a shop called Sports World offering high-end sports products.
It was serendipity that first led Bruce to Garmin watches as a user. He believed that while Garmin might not be a household name in Hong Kong at the time, its brilliance was quietly waiting to be discovered. In 2009, Sports World became an official distributor for Garmin in Hong Kong and Macau.
The distribution business began with a small suitcase packed with Garmin products (e.g. Forerunner 10) being dragged to different stores to tout their features. Despite the total sales being merely HKD 30,000 in the first month in 2009, the business kept on expanding and eventually PPD was born in 2012.
A few years later, PPD opened and operated two Garmin Brand Stores in Tsim Sha Tsui and Causeway Bay. In August 2019, the distributorship ended with Forerunner 245 and 945 as the last models we carried and PPD averaged HKD 13 million sales per month (with more than 400 times growth over the decade).
In spite of this business change, PPD will continue its unwavering commitment to bring quality products to sports enthusiasts, as always.

一個超越 400 倍增長的故事
在2019年8月15日，我們遺憾地為這長達十年作為Garmin香港總代理這個驚喜不斷的歷史任務畫上句號。
回想當初Garmin在香港的銷售及佔有率在亞洲地區中只屬於一個小市場，但憑藉 PPD 正確的市場策略及以客為主導的銷售模式，PPD在兩年內使Garmin在香港發展為一個僅次於日本的亞洲第二大市場。( 南華早報訪問 )
PPD 的創辦人 Bruce Pye 是一名鐵人三項運動員。當Bruce發現在香港市場尋找優質、合適的運動裝備時遇上困難，便於2008年開設了一家名叫Sports World的商店，致力為運動員、運動愛好者尋找並提供優質的運動用品。
機緣巧合下，Bruce認識了Garmin運動手錶。當時Garmin 在香港鮮為人知，但他深深相信其卓越的功能靜待被發現。所以，在2009年Sports World 便正式成為 Garmin 香港及澳門的總代理。
Garmin的代理業務始於一個裝滿手錶 (例如Forerunner 10) 的小行李箱，被拖到不同商店去推介其特點，而首月的訂單總額僅為三萬港元。隨著公司業務的增長，PPD於2012年誕生！數年後，更分別於尖沙咀和銅鑼灣開設Garmin專門店。
直至2019年8月，總代理角色於最新型號Forerunner 245和945出現後數月完結。而這時每月平均的營業額為一千三百萬港元 (由2009年到2019年達至400倍的增長)。
PPD與Garmin的代理合作雖然完結，但我們仍會繼續為運動愛好者提供優質的運動用品，堅持初衷。
